How do I turn push notifications on or off from my iOS Device?

iPhone

To turn push notifications on or off from your iPhone:

  1. Go to your device's Settings

  1. Tap Notifications > App [Name]
  2. Swipe on or off

Types of notifications

Notifications from apps on your iOS device can have these styles:

  • Sounds/Vibrate: A sound alert plays.
  • Banners: A banner appears on the screen.
  • Badges: An image or number appears on the app icon.

Your iOS device can also use your location to send you relevant alerts based on where you are. For example, you might get a reminder to call someone when you get to a specific place or when you leave for your next location.

If you don't want these types of alerts, you can turn them off. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services and tap the alerts and services you want to turn off. Learn more about Location Services.

Use Notification Center

The Notification Center has two views: Today and Notifications. To access Notification Center, swipe down from the top of the screen. You can also open Notification Center from the Lock screen, Home screen, or from inside an app.

Today

The Today view shows you what you need to know for your day, like calendar events, weather, and how much battery charge is left on paired devices. To customize what you see in the Today view, tap Today, pull down from the Home screen, scroll to the bottom, and tap Edit.

You can't customize the Today view from the Lock screen.

Notifications

The Notifications view shows you alerts that you might have missed. To see the Notifications view, swipe left while on the Today view.

You can tap an alert in Notification Center to open the app. You can limit what appears on the Lock screen in Notification Center if you’re using a passcode. Learn how to set up a passcode on your device.

If you're using an iPad, the Today and Notifications views might have fewer widgets than an iPhone. For example, you might not see the Stocks widget.

Get notifications while you use your device

With iOS, different alerts let you act quickly on texts, emails, calendar invitations, reminders, Messages, and more.

Interactive banner

With Banner alerts, you can quickly reply to or dismiss a message without leaving the app that you’re in. To reply, swipe down on the banner. To dismiss, swipe up. If you don't reply to or dismiss a banner alert, it will go away automatically.

Interactive alert

With Alerts, you need to act before you can move on. Depending on the app, you can dismiss the alert or reply to it.

Change Notifications settings

Some apps like email or social media apps send frequent notifications, which might affect battery life. If you have Show on Lock Screen turned on for notifications, this also might affect battery life.

To turn off or change notifications, go to Settings > Notifications and select the app. You can also sort your alerts by most recent, order them manually, or group them based on the app.

If you don't see notifications for a specific app

To get notifications, you need to be connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. If you’re not getting notifications for a specific app, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that the app supports notifications. Go to Settings > Notifications, select the app, and make sure that Notifications are turned on.
  2. Make sure that you’re signed in to your Apple ID on your iOS device. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and enter your Apple ID and password.
  3. Make sure that Do Not Disturb is turned off. Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb and tap Manual if it's turned on.
  4. If you’ve recently installed an app or restored from a backup, open the app to start getting notifications.
